Just In Time For The Holidays, Nintendo Release Calendar
Nintendo is not just for kids. I attended a Nintendo#3DSNotJustForKids Holiday Preview event and had a blast playing the new games. I have not played a handheld game in years. I have watched my kids play over the years.
My son already has the New Nintendo 3DS XL. A few nights ago I found my son’s 3DS on the couch when he should have been reading. He did not think to hide it or turn it off. I find myself yelling at him to put it away or telling him to give to me. While attending this event I quickly understand why he does these crazy things. These games are fun!
I am not kidding when I tried the new games I was hooked. I actually won playing against some other people. I have to admit did gloat a bit. My competitive side instantly kicked in when I played these games:

- 3D screen, enabling 3D view without the need for special glasses and the ability to adjust or turn off 3D effect with the 3D Depth Slider.
- Face-tracking 3D feature automatically adjusts the “sweet spot” based on the location and angle of the user’s face, even in dimly lit conditions.
- Built-in amiibo functionality with NFC reader located on the lower screen above the Home Button.
- Better processing power (compared to Nintendo 3DS) makes the system faster and more responsive as users move between applications or download items from the Nintendo eShop.
- Wide range of control schemes, including the new C-Stick, a second control stick that enables for dual analog controls and the new ZL and ZR shoulder buttons.
- Stereo cameras that enable users to take 3D photos that can be viewed instantly on the 3D screen. Increased camera sensitivity lets users take photos even in low-light situations.
- SpotPass, when activated, is a feature that lets the Nintendo 3DS family of systems detect wireless hotspots or wireless LAN access points and obtain information, certain game data, free software, videos and so on for players even when the system is in Sleep Mode.
- StreetPass, when activated, is a feature that lets the Nintendo 3DS family of systems exchange certain game data automatically with other Nintendo 3DS family systems within range, even in Sleep Mode, once this feature is activated by the user. Data for multiple games can be exchanged simultaneously.
- Convenient features that users can access without stopping game play such as the HOME Menu, Internet Browser, Notifications, Miiverse, etc.
- Plenty of built-in software, such as the Nintendo 3DS Camera, Nintendo 3DS Sound, Mii Maker, StreetPass Mii Plaza, AR Games, etc.
- Nintendo eShop, where users can browse and purchase downloadable software, see game trailers and learn about games.
- Internet browser supports 2D and 3D video playback.
- Parental Controls enable parents to restrict game content by ratings and limit the use of specific wireless connectivity, 3D functionality, etc.
Nintendo has come out with awesome games for the 3DS. I now see what I have been missing out on. Trust me the 3Ds is not just for kids.
