Free And For Me

There is nothing like rooftop dining on a beautiful, spring evening.   There are not many or should I say, any rooftop, elegant restaurants in The Valley, so my family was looking forward to driving into the city to enjoy dinner at Margot Culver City.

Margot LA offers an array of family-style, appetizers, entrees, drinks, and desserts.

For starters, we enjoyed Potatoes Bravas, small plate.  These crispy fingerlings with smoked paprika aioli were the perfect way to start off our evening.   I have been trying to stay away from carbs and starchy foods, but I could not resist these potatoes. I had absolutely no regrets after eating them.

As we dined on this luxury dinner, we quenched our thirst with a couple of mocktails.  My daughter insisted she did not want one.  After my son kept raving about the delicious flavors, she could not resist and placed an order for a mocktail.  Her plan was to order a cocktail, but she left her ID at home.

We try to eat as many vegetables during every meal.  Of course, we had to order a few vegetables.  I know Eggplant Caponata Toast is not a vegetable, but we really wanted eggplant.  Let me just tell you, it was delicious!  The toast literally melted in our mouths.

It was hard to decide on which vegetable to order.  My son does not like cauliflower and my daughter does.  Our waiter assured us the Brind and Roasted Cauliflower was so delicious that my son would love cauliflower after tasting it.   I was uncertain about that, so we ordered Asparagus A La Plancha also.

My son was the first one to taste the cauliflower.   Our waiter was right,  my son loved it!  I am thinking we will have to dine at Margot again in order to get him to eat cauliflower.  He ate more cauliflower than asparagus.  That was fine with me because that meant more asparagus for me and my daughter.  The asparagus turned out to be my favorite dish.

Waiting for our food to be prepared never felt like a wait because we could not help but enjoy the soft sounds of Neo-Soul and R & B music that played in the background.   As I scanned the rooftop there were a few people bobbing their heads.  There were a couple of women sitting across from us that were softly singing and chair dancing when a familiar song came on.

As we enjoyed the ambiance we continued to eat and talk.  We also ate spaghetti and whole grilled sea bream.

As night fell, our dining experience was winding down.  We could not resist ordering dessert.  Our waiter insisted we order the sampler dessert.  The sampler actually included some of our favorite desserts.  It was just the right amount to gauge how each full-sized dessert may taste.

I am an avid tea drinker.  I had to enjoy a cup of tea with my dessert.  Aside from that, the night was cooler than we anticipated, so a nice cup of tea was perfect for a night like this.

Although the night was surprisingly cooler we kept warm with heat lamps and blankets.  With full bellies, warmth, good music, and 360 views of Culver City there was no need to leave.   Of course, we all know all good things must come to an end.
