Yoga has never been my exercise of choice, but after attending the sunrise yoga event last Friday, I see yoga in a different light.

For the first time while doing yoga, I did not watch the clock, lay flat on my mat, stress out or struggle.

The sun had risen and the fresh ocean breeze from the Santa Monica Beach was the perfect air conditioning while doing our yoga moves at the Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica.

I am not familiar with all of the yoga terms, but I think I followed them correctly. As I turned to my left and then to my right, I seemed to be in sync with everyone else.  Either way, I felt good!  I felt so good that when the instructor was bowing forward and saying namaste, I felt a rush come over me.

I turned to my daughter and said, “I felt something.”  She looked at me and said, “Yes, you are supposed to feel something!”

Prior to this day, she had suggested I not participate in yoga classes because I act like it is pure torture.  Now, I have been given the green light.

After our yoga session we tried some thinkThin bars and oatmeal.  I have eaten thinkThin bars, but I was introduced to thinkThin oatmeal for the first time.  It was absolutely delicious!

Like the bars, the oatmeal is high in protein and low in sugar. I learned at an early age that it is important to have a high protein intake, and now as I am getting older I am always searching for foods and snacks high in protein.   I love that thinkThin is meeting my protein needs.  The oatmeal is low in sugar, some of us added a little brown sugar and raisins.   We quenched our thirst with water and tea.

I strongly believe in exercising and eating healthy.  Lately, I have been trying to find new things to incorporate into my diet and have been trying to change my exercise routine.  Thanks to Andrea Metcalf, thinkThin, and Women’s Forum, this event was just what I needed.
