Alpine Slide Big Bear Review – Vacation Big Bear
With Spring approaching and not having much of a winter, my family and I decided to visit Alpine Slide Big Bear. We had a blast!!!
I had not been to Big Bear in years and my son and daughter had never been. I was concerned about what we would do the entire weekend and thought since there had been snow the weekend before, there would be snow the weekend we arrived. With 60 degree weather, there was not too much snow in Big Bear, but Alpine Slide made sure there was plenty of snow for their visitors.
We began our day by getting on the bobsled. We were taken up by chairlift that provided an awesome scenic view of Big Bear Lake and the surrounding mountains. As we approached the top of the mountain, we did not want to get off of the chairlift, it was so relaxing.
The fun really began when we got off and were able to bobsled. I swear. I thought I was apart of the movie, Cool Runnings. I cannot tell you how much we enjoyed this. The first time I went down my son and I went down the side for first timers. I could not figure out why I was going slower than the people to my left, that is the side my daughter was on. I had not read the sign when I was at the top of the hill. The second time I went down, I went down on the left side and it was on; that is until my sled slid and I almost fell out. I did scrap my knee, well let me tell the truth I still have a gash. It only happened, because as I was going downhill I heard a kid yelling mom from the chairlift and I thought it was my son, whom I knew had just gone down hill minutes before me. I was zooming downhill and the sled tilted to the right and I began to downhill on my right knee. Mind you I was going downhill extremely fast. I straightened it out and I am fine. But I am just warning anyone who tries this AWESOME ride, PAY ATTENTION!!!
If you are looking for a way to tire your kids out, snow tubing hill will definitely do the job. My son went sledding downhill so many times he slept for hours at the end of the day. I did go down a couple of times and enjoyed it. We went down holding hands, individually or we lined up behind one another and linked our legs and went down hill. We also discovered that if you hold your legs up at the front of the tube, you will go faster. When we linked our legs, we put my son in front since his legs were shorter and we went flying downhill.
Playing in the snow was fun. We ended our day, by getting on the golf carts. I had to drive my son, because he was a little too short. Let me just tell you, I went around the lap a couple of times and could not wait to get off. The ride was fun, but at my age going in circles too many times can be a lot. My son on the other hand, did not want it to end. It seemed like it was never ending. It is worth every penny. I was both tired and dizzy. I am glad one of us enjoyed driving/riding the go karts.
I know snow season is over, but there are things to do in the summer at Alpine Slide during as well. There is always driving the go karts. There is miniature golf, in which I was so tired I could not get around to playing. There is a water slide that opens Memorial Day Weekend. As I write this post, I have to admit, my son was not the only tired one after a day at Alpine Big Bear. There was a lot to do, just go relaxed and prepared to have fun.
We spent an entire Saturday there and watched the place grow with visitors ready to play. We arrived at 10:00 a.m., when they opened. We were able to get on the bobsled and snow tube without waiting in line. About an hour and a half later I could not believe the amount of people. I did not mind the crowd. There were a couple of people that were not following the rules at the tubing area, when it got crowded. But, is to be expected when you have so many people in one place, especially at a place that is so much fun.
Visiting Alpine Slide in Big Bear, helped us find winter in California.
