How To Get Free Things Online Without Paying

Have you heard the old saying, “Nothing in life is free.”   I agree, but I do know that companies give away free full-sized and sample-sized products with hopes that consumers will buy their product after they have sampled them for free.

For consumers that lead a frugal lifestyle, they are not concerned with the marketing aspect of the companies, all they are thinking about is the free product.

I can recall being fresh out of college and trying to figure out how to make a lot of money, save money and have a decent lifestyle.  While trying sort things out I discovered ways to get free items from companies. I remember telling my friend about it and the look she gave me was as if she thought I had lost my mind.  Like many people she thought there is no way, you could get free stuff from companies.

After graduating from college I gave birth to my daughter.  Although I had a career, I had some serious overhead like nursery school, car note, etc.  To supplement my income I decided to find places to get free stuff.

How To Get Freebies For Baby:

This was almost 24 years ago when I made this discovery.  One day while cutting coupons I read the fine print of some Gerber and Beech-Nut coupons.  The fine print on the coupons said, if I saved a certain amount of the UPC symbols and mailed them in, I would receive a Gerber or Beech-Nut check to purchase more baby food.   I did exactly what the coupons said and both companies mailed me checks that could only be used for the purchase of their baby food. Using these checks and my coupons the store would owe me money after ringing up all of my food items.  I could not believe it. I was getting free baby food! Please keep in mind, to start this off I did have to purchase the food in the beginning.  Eventually, I was getting totally free baby stuff.

I also found a way to get free baby formula.  One day while at the doctor’s office, the nurse asked me did I want formula samples.  I said, “Yes.” She returned with a case of formula. I thought she was going to bring me one or two samples.  She let me know the office does give the samples I was thinking of but they have to get rid of them before they expire.  For months she would give me cases of formula. This saved me so much money. If you do not know baby formula is expensive.  All you have to do is ask your pediatrician if they have formula they would like to get rid of before it expires.  They want you to have these free baby product samples.

It was like freebies were landing in my lap.  I also received free newborn diaper samples until my daughter was almost eight months. They were not exactly samples.  I was getting full sized packages. I knew someone that worked for a diaper company and they began bringing packages of diapers that had the slightest tear or rip.  They could be placed on the shelves to sell to consumers.   Since they could not be sold she would give them to me.

I still had not quite tapped into getting free stuff at this point because I did not know how to find it.

The internet was not huge when I started looking into getting free stuff so these were the best things I was aware of.

Best Free Stuff Websites:

As years passed and the internet was a huge resource. I was able to find some good online freebies.  The first site I discovered was Free Stuff Times. This is one of the oldest and trusted freebie websites.   This site is updated daily with a list of freebies, ranging from clothing, food, beauty products, movies, coupon codes, sweepstakes, and more.  I like that they offer coupons and deals from local businesses also. There is also an active comment section. People will post if a code is not working or any issue they may have or let you know if a deal or freebie is about to expire.  I knew this was a legitimate site when I saw people posting pictures of all of the freebies they had received.

Visiting Free Stuff Times became a daily ritual for me.   I quickly learned that I had to act fast in the world of online freebies.  Companies have a certain amount of free items they are giving away. For example, they may offer a free sample of something to the first 1,000 people.  I always tried to make sure to grab the freebie as soon as I saw it posted.

After I realized that I could really get free stuff, I wanted to find more ways to get free things and places to get free stuff.  I was hooked!

I did not know exactly where to look.  A couple of my friends were aware that I had started getting free things online. One of them told me about Bzz Agent.  I registered with them and they began sending me free products to sample and share my opinion through a questionnaire.  The first item I received was an electric toothbrush. Bzz Agent is more of a product testing site but the items you will receive are free.

List Of Companies That Give Free Stuff: (This list not in any particular order)
  • Tryspree Free Samples.  They are ordered for you daily.
  • Sweet Free Stuff Free samples.  Food, cosmetics, health, magazines and more.

The above websites that give free stuff are legitimate and safe.

Emailing Companies For Free Stuff:

Aside from visiting these sites, I have contacted brands that I like letting them know how much I love their product/products.  In response, I have received products, samples, and coupons as a token of their appreciation. On the flip side, I have contacted companies when I have been displeased with their product or business.  After contacting them I have received products, samples, and coupons from them as well.

Attend Events For Free (Free Event Website):

Getting free things does not always mean getting an actual product.

If you would like to attend free events in your area Goldstar has complimentary/free tickets for plays, concerts, and more.

Also, typing in free events near me or keywords similar to this you can find free events in your area.  Sites like eventbrite will have a list of free events in your area.  You will be surprised by the type of free events that are offered.   For example, movies in the park, music in the park, restaurant grand openings, festivals and more.  There is always something going on.

How To Get Free Movie Theater Tickets:

I know the price of movies can be expensive.  There are companies out there that offer free movie screenings.  Some of these companies also offer an incentive for attending the screening.  They will pay people to attend their screenings. They sometimes will provide popcorn and soda.  You do not have to worry about spending money at the concessions stand.

Free Movie Screenings Companies:

Gofobo

USAAudiences

If you register with them, they will email you when there is a movie screening in your area.  If you visit Free Stuff Times, they also have a movie screening tab, providing a list of free movie screenings that may be in your area also.

Sometimes I like staying in and watching a movie at home.  I sometimes rent movies from Redbox.

Did you know Redbox offers free movie rentals? All you have to do is sign up with Red Box emails and you will start receiving free movie codes.  Sometimes the codes are for a free movie rental, or if you pay to rent one they will give you a free movie code for the second movie rental. Redbox also has Redbox Text Club They will text you with free movie rentals and deals as well. To get on the list, text SIGNUP to 727272.  Sometimes they will offer free game rentals as well. You can also Google free Redbox movie code and sometimes you can find them that way.

How To Get Free Food From Grocery Stores and Restaurants:

I have also found that grocery stores like to give away free food!  Ralph’s and Kroger offer a Free Friday download. If you are a registered rewards member, you can log on through their website or through their app every Friday, and they have a new product they are giving away for free.  After you select it, it is saved to your coupons. Sometimes the free sites listed above will announce a freebie during the middle of the week in addition to the one that is given every Friday. I have noticed that when it is holiday weekend a Freebie is not listed on a Friday before.

Albertson’s and  Von’s also offer free food as well.   If you register with them for their rewards program and download the app they offer free food as well.  Sometimes I just type free in the search bar of the app and my freebies appear. You can also get free food items with your reward points but I just use them to go towards my fuel points.  These fuel points offer 10 cents off your gas at Chevron gas stations. Sometimes I have $0.20 – $0.30 off. It comes in handy with these high gas prices. Ralph’s and Kroger offer fuel reward points at Shell gas stations.

Restaurants also give away free meals.  Many of them give away free meals for signing up for their newsletter or app. (how to get free stuff on apps)

For Example Restaurants That Give Free Food For Signing Up:
  • Starbuck’s often offers 50% off its coffee products during certain times of any month
  • Baskin and Robbins will give you a free scoop of ice cream on your birthday.  If you have the app or are on the email list, oftentimes they are doing a buy one get free promotion or some sort of deal.
  • Ben & Jerry’s occasionally give away free ice cream, including Mother’s and Father’s Day.  Sometimes the above freebie sites will list when they are giving away free ice cream, not on these holidays.
  • 7-11 gives away a free Slurpee to every customer on July 11th, which is “7-11”
  • Chick-fil-A will give you a free meal if you dress up like a cow on Cow Appreciation Day
  • Cinnabon, Chili’s, Teavana and P.F. Chang’s give away free food on certain days.  The sites listed above will usually have these days posted as well.
  • Many restaurants will give away free appetizers on Mother’s and Father’s Day.
  • Find out which restaurants allows children eat free all the time at MyKidsEatFree.com
  • or download the Out To Eat With Kids apps to get a list of what restaurants are offering free or discounted meals for children or visit websites like CouponDivas.com to find lists of restaurants that allow kids to eat free.
  • Applebee’s, Olive Garden, Chili’s and Golden Corral are just some of the restaurants that let active and retired members of the military eat free on Veteran’s Day.  Again some of the above sites will have them listed. I know Free Stuff Times definitely will list restaurants that are offering free meals for Veterans on Veterans Day.

Ways To Get Free Stuff On Amazon:

  • Go to the Amazon website.  Type the word free in the search bar.  Hit enter.  All that Amazon is offering from free will appear.
  • Amazon Trade-In: If you have eligible devices you would like to get rid of— Amazon devices, electronics, books, video games, and more — you can send them to Amazon Trade-In for consideration. This could be a good way to make some extra money. Follow these steps: Send your items in for free by using a prepaid UPS shipping label. You’ll get confirmation about the rejection or acceptance of your items within two business days of Amazon receiving them. If it’s a “no,” they won’t send it back, but they’ll properly recycle it for you.  If your electronic meets the criteria, you’ll receive payment in the form of an Amazon gift card.
  • Register for Amazon Drive and Get Free Cloud Storage: You do not have to be a Prime subscriber to get 5GB worth of photo and video cloud storage on the house. That’s about 1,500 photos and hundreds of videos and documents in one location saved. If you want free and unlimited with full-resolution photo storage, you have to get Amazon Prime for this freebie.
  • Get Free Baby Stuff By Creating Your Baby Registry On Amazon: If you create a baby registry with Amazon and your friends or family purchase $10 worth of products from your list, Amazon will send you a FREE welcome box (valued at $35) that comes with 10+ baby items from diapers to baby wipes.
  • Receive Free Amazon Stuff in exchange for Reviews: As a product reviewer, you will need to have an Amazon account and a profile page. Depending on which program you join, the procedures may differ a little, but the concept is the same. Here are some examples:
    • AMZDiscover: With this tool, you sign up as a reviewer and give AMZDiscover a list of categories you’re interested in. AMZDiscover will then send you possible products to review.
    • Cashback Base: You’ll be paid in merchandise for leaving reviews on Amazon products.
    • Tomoson.com: Get free Amazon products on here if you’re an influencer or have a significant following on YouTube, Instagram, or other social media platforms. The brands will choose you on Tomoson, and not the other way around. Note that it isn’t getting chosen, but once you are, you’ll be receiving products for free left and right.

Get Free Stuff On Social Media:

Finding free stuff does not end here.  You can also find free items through Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.  There are Facebook fan pages that only share freebies. Typing in hashtags like #freebies, #free, #freestuff, #deals is a way to find freebies.  Many retailers will announce freebies, deals, and giveaways on their social media channels. It is best to follow the retailers you like to see what they are giving away.

How To Find Free Things On Craigslist:

Craigslist is a great place to find free stuff also.  Craigslist has a free section.

Buy and Sell Freebies On Facebook Marketplace:

I have seen people give away things on Facebook Marketplace also.  You can also sell things and make a little money.

Also, if the city or community you live in has a Facebook page or Facebook group, that is a good place to find free things also.

Send Me Free Stuff In The Mail/Free Stuff Sent To Your House:

When I began receiving free stuff it seemed like I was receiving something in the mail every day. I created an email just for my free stuff sign up. I did not want to be bombarded with emails coming to my regular email address after I signed up.  Not all companies require you to use an email address, sometimes it is a download or just going to the store to pick up the item before they are all gone. For the times I needed to provide an email I was always prepared.  I used the email address I created just for freebies. I knew I would start to receive emails about deals, new products or more freebies from these companies.

I do not mind being apart of their database with this email address because there are benefits that come with it.  There have been times that I signed up for one free item and months later I receive something I was not expecting. Once your name is in the database you may receive more freebies you are not expecting.  That is always a pleasant surprise.

I have received actual products mailed to me or a free product coupon has been mailed to me.  Sometimes I do not receive just one free product coupon from one company, I receive several. It is the best when I am checking out at the register and I have a stack of free product coupons and the cashier says, “These are great coupons!”  Often times they ask where did I get them from.

I have found that by following free stuff sites or finding your favorite site that you like to follow a lot of free products will start coming in and you will begin to save money.  I recall receiving toothpaste samples. At first, I was bothered by the pint-sized samples coming to the mailbox. That was until one day I ran out of toothpaste and went into my sample drawer and had so many sample toothpaste.  I decided I would use the samples for a while and after they ran out I would purchase more. If I did purchase any I had a deal on it. It seemed like my household always had samples of something. Either full size or sample size.

I did not experience this only with toothpaste.  I have received cereal, candy, beauty products, dog food, and more. I had products I had never used before and was glad to try and I had products from trusted brands that I loved.

In the beginning, I was concerned about free sample scams.  Over some time I am able to recognize the scammers. I have not had bad experiences that I can recall.

How to Avoid Free-Sample Scams:

If you are questioning if the promotion is legitimate or not think of these tips to ensure you’re not the victim of a free-sample scam.

  • Focus on the products that you want.
  • Make sure your computer is protected.  I warning will appear if you click on a bad link.
  • Free-trial requirements are not part of a free sample.
  • Look for websites that point you to the actual company offering the free sample.
  • Remember that surveys are not your job.
  • Free samples never require more than your basic information, such as name and address. They will sometimes as for your email. If a site asks for credit card information or social security numbers, click out of it immediately.
  • Like your favorite companies on social media. They might promote samples directly through Facebook or Twitter in exchange for you “sharing” the offer or product with your followers.

If you start to visit these sites or do any of the things I have suggested you will start to receive lots of free samples.

Just as the old saying goes, “Nothing in life is free.”  Yes, you are receiving free items but it does cost you some time. Aside from it costing you time, this is one of the best marketing strategies for companies to market to consumers.  More than likely you are going to like the product and purchase it. As a frugal shopper, you may purchase it with a coupon or when there is a great sale or deal you will purchase the product, dine at the restaurant, etc.  You may even tell a friend about how amazing the product is and they will go out and purchase it. Either way, it is a win-win for everyone. You are getting free stuff and the companies are getting the word out there about their new products.  It is all marketing.

Frugal shoppers are able to benefit from getting free stuff.  Although it takes some time out of your day, you are able to save an incredible amount of money.

How To Win Sweepstakes Online

Believe it or not, you can get free things by entering sweepstakes.  Trust me, I have won many things by entering no purchase necessary sweepstakes.

“Congratulations! You’ve just won ten million dollars!” Wouldn’t that be nice to hear? How about, “Congratulations! You’ve just won ten pairs of socks!” Well, it doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, but it’s always nice to win. If you like getting something for nothing (and who doesn’t?) maybe it’s time you won sweepstakes. Of course, sweepstakes winners are chosen at random like a lottery, so there’s no way to increase your chance of winning. Or is there?

My Sweepstakes Story

I seriously began entering sweepstakes in December 2010, by January 2011 I had my first win a Legends of the Guardian DVD and blue-ray pack. It was a small win, but I was so motivated and excited.  I only entered online sweepstakes, but there are other ways to enter sweepstakes.  One of my favorite sweepstakes sites is Free Stuff Times, contest tab. I have won gift cards, hotel stays, appliances, jewelry, and more.  I began researching different sites to see which ones worked for me. I had to find one that would allow me to keep track of all of my entries. It was also important to read about wins that other people were receiving. As I began to win, I started entering as many sweepstakes as possible, such as one-time entry, instant wins, daily, weekly, and monthly. The instant wins are great. It feels so good to see, “congratulations” pop up on the screen. I have followed the methods and suggestions of sweepstakes websites.  It is sometimes hard to stay motivated, but when you receive an email, voicemail or surprise envelope, or package by the door informing you of a win it is a reminder that this is well worth it, and if you remain persistent and consistent you will win something. It is important to come up with your own strategy and stick with it.
How to enter no purchase necessary sweepstakes
  • Find any sweepstakes to enter. It’s not too hard to find sweepstakes. You can enter them at the grocery store, at the bank, at fundraisers, or on the internet. Heck, you probably even get invitations to enter sweepstakes in the mail. You probably want to enter most of these sweepstakes of course, but if you’re really serious about winning, you need to actively seek out sweepstakes. Start reading the newspaper and going through your mail more carefully. Carry a notepad and pen with you to jot down the details of any sweepstakes you might see on TV or hear on the radio. Search the internet– there are even internet databases, some free and some by subscription only, that can clue you into hundreds or thousands of sweepstakes.
  • Choose which sweepstakes to enter. Not all sweepstakes are created equal. For one thing, if you have to buy something to have a chance to win, don’t enter. If you have to complete some sort of program (which usually entails buying things) to enter—those annoying pop-ups for free iPods come to mind—don’t enter (unless it’s realistic to complete and free). There are plenty of chances to win without jumping through hoops or wasting your money. Beyond that, your decision to enter should be based on your own preferences. Here are a few things to consider.
  • What can you win? Sweepstakes with a large sum of prize money are almost always worth entering, just because it’s so much money. Sweepstakes with smaller prizes can be great because you generally have a more realistic chance of winning. Don’t, however, waste your time entering sweepstakes for a prize you don’t want and can’t easily sell for a good profit.
  • What are your odds of winning? You usually don’t know what the exact odds of winning are because it will depend on the number of entries. You can, however, estimate the odds. If you get an entry form in the mail for sweepstakes with a huge prize, you can be assured of a ridiculous number of entries. If you see a jar at a local restaurant for a free lunch, however, you know your odds of winning will be much greater–you may even be able to see how many entries are in the jar. The number of entries will generally depend on the size of the prize, the range of the target audience (local contests usually have better odds than national contests), the duration of the sweepstakes (a weekly drawing is better than a monthly drawing), and how well-publicized the sweepstakes is. You’ll also want to consider how many prizes will be given away. A contest that receives hundreds of thousands of entries but offers a thousand prizes has odds of hundreds-to-one. That means you would likely need to enter hundreds of times in order to win even a single prize. Does this all mean that you shouldn’t bother with big contests? Maybe not, unless they’re offering big prizes or plentiful prizes.
  • Will your privacy be protected? Unfortunately, the answer to this question is almost certainly “no”. Ask yourself: is a lifetime of junk mail, spam, or even sales calls worth the small chance of winning the prize? Probably not. Different sweepstakes offer different degrees of privacy, and they should disclose what they will do with your personal information. Read the fine print, and if you’re not comfortable with their use of your information, don’t enter. Keep in mind that, even companies who claim to respect your privacy will probably sell it anyway; this type of fraud, though illegal, is very common and very difficult to enforce against. This is an especially pervasive problem with online sweepstakes, as they’ll often sell your email address to spammers who will bombard you with unwanted emails. That said, keep in mind that you can’t really expect something for nothing, and sometimes you may decide that giving away some information is worth the chance of winning the prize.
  • Read the rules carefully and follow them to the letter. You can’t expect to win if you don’t play by the rules. Go through the contest rules with a fine-tooth comb. Some are very simple, but others are not. If you don’t follow the rules exactly, your entry will be disqualified. The good news is that many people don’t follow the rules, a fact which increases your chances of winning. One rule that almost all sweepstakes have is an entry deadline. You’ve got to beat the deadline or you won’t win.
  • Print legibly. Make sure that other people can read everything you write on your sweepstakes entries, particularly your contact information. If you have atrocious handwriting, consider typing your entries if the rules allow it.
  • Provide the right answer. Some sweepstakes require that you answer a question correctly. There’s no point in entering these if you don’t have the right answer, so check and double-check the accuracy of your answer before sending in your entry.
  • Enter as many times as possible. The more times you enter, the better your odds. It’s as simple as that. Before you send in a million entries, however, make sure you know how many entries the rules allow you. If you send in one too many, you’ll be disqualified. Additionally, rules may stipulate “one entry per day” or “one entry per envelope.” If you’re having to pay postage for each entry, consider your budget, and don’t get carried away, especially if the prize isn’t worth much.
  • Bring entry forms home. If you can just drop your entries into a box, take some entry forms home with you so that you can fill out as many as the rules permit without feeling crunched for time.
  • Space out your entries. Assuming that the number of times you can enter is constrained, either by the rules or by your budget, don’t send in or drop in all your entries at one time. Wait a few days or weeks (depending on the contest) between entries so that when the entries get mixed together you’ve got a better chance of one of your entries landing on top
  • Distinguish your entry. There isn’t much you can do to distinguish your entry online, but for paper entries, it doesn’t hurt to give yourself a little competitive edge.
  • Use a large envelope. Many mail-in sweepstakes simply drop the envelopes into a big bin and have someone pull one out. A bigger envelope has a better chance of being pulled. Many sweepstakes, however, have rules regarding the size of the envelope or postcard you can use, so you can’t always use this trick.
  • Decorate your entry. Sometimes the person picking the entry will be blindfolded, but many times they will not be. Set your entry apart by using a brightly colored envelope, applying stickers, or otherwise decorating the entry (within the rules, of course) so that it catches the eye.
  • Fold your entry in a unique way. For drop-your-entry-in-the-box sweepstakes, fold each entry so that it’s attractive and bulky. An accordion-style folding job or some simple origami may make your entry more likely to be picked over all those entries that are simply folded down the middle.
  • Follow the requirements to claim your prize. Once you’ve won, you’ve still got to make sure you get your prize, and that usually requires you filling out some affidavits, possibly notarized, or completing some kind of paperwork in a timely fashion. Follow through on claiming your prize, and make sure you meet any deadlines. Watch out for scams, though (see Warnings section below).

Sweepstakes Tips

  • If you’re going to enter online sweepstakes, consider getting a separate email account just to use for those entries. You’ll still have to sift through spam, but it won’t be in your personal email account.
  • The more difficult a sweepstakes are to enter, the fewer qualified entries they will receive. If you have to answer a difficult question correctly, or if you have to spam a hundred of your closest friends, you’ll have better odds. Difficult sweepstakes are pure gold, but be sure to separate difficult from unrealistic (i.e. you have to spam 100 of your closest friends and they all have to enter their email addresses on a website).
  • If you enter a lot of contests and sweepstakes you may have trouble keeping track of all the deadlines. It’s a good idea to prioritize them in a list or spreadsheet so you’ll make sure never to miss a deadline. Plan ahead. You don’t want to be in a position where you’re tempted to pay for overnight delivery for an entry.
  • If you’re budget conscious, use postcards if the rules allow them. They’re cheaper to send than envelopes, so you can send more entries.
  • Contests, which offer prizes based on some sort of merit, almost always have better odds than sweepstakes with similar prizes because contests require skill and time. This guide isn’t formulated for contests, but many of the same rules apply.
  • Speaking of overnight delivery: it’s just not worth it. Like entering sweepstakes that require a purchase, paying exorbitant postage is a waste of money–money that could be spent buying stamps for a lot of other sweepstakes. If you’re entering a contest (a competition based on skill rather than luck), you may decide that special delivery is worthwhile if you’ve got a great entry.
  • Don’t send in for a list of winners. If you won, you’ll know, as long as you haven’t moved and left no forwarding address.
  • If the contest requires a certain sized postcard (most are 3×5 in.) then use that size! Do not use general index cards for it because they most likely won’t match the size requirements and your entry will be automatically disqualified.

 Warnings

  • When you enter a sweepstake, you run the risk of having your contact information sold to multiple mailing lists. This may be true even if the sweepstakes claims to respect your privacy because mailing address information is not always considered “private information” such as your bank account number. Unfortunately, the truth is that there really is no such thing as a “free” when it comes to sweepstakes. In this case, you are paying for “free” prizes with your contact information, and through other profit generated by advertising. These kinds of contests are the bread-and-butter of spammers and the chances of winning anything valuable are remote. Even in cases where your privacy is supposedly guaranteed, it’s quite likely that your personal information will be sold to a mailing list collector somewhere. When you enter sweepstakes, you can expect your volume of junk mail to increase dramatically. In addition to a “spamtrap” email address, you might consider using a mailbox drop or PO Box (PO Box is cheaper) if you plan to enter a lot of sweepstakes. However, note that many internet contests now recognize most of the freebie mail services, and disallow them. One way to get around that is to have your own domain, and use an address that is easily filtered. Some contests will disallow PO Boxes, but a mail-drop address (“Suite #, etc) is not as easily detectable.
  • Beware of scams. There are plenty of sweepstakes scams that require money or purchase upfront, but there are also scams where someone will call you and tell you you’ve won a prize but need to pay a fee or give them your bank account information in order to claim it. Don’t fall for these tricks. Legitimate sweepstakes will not require payment or personal financial information.
  • Do a cost-benefit analysis. The cost of postage can really add up if you’re entering a lot of sweepstakes, as can the time you spend filling out entries. Think about how much time and money you’re spending on your sweepstakes hobby.
  • Yes, it’s a sweepstakes hobby, not a job. You may be able to increase your chances of winning, and indeed if you enter enough sweepstakes you will most likely win sometimes, but the odds still range from poor to astronomical. Enter sweepstakes for the thrill of doing so, but don’t try to make luck your primary source of income.
  • Are you ready to have your name and photo spread all over the news and in future advertising of the sweepstakes you are entering? Think of how many new “friends”, spam, and tax burdens you’ll get if you win
