After 15 months of being closed, things are opening up. People are traveling. People have adopted vegan diets or are incorporating more vegan food options in their diets.
Before you plan that amazing trip, do you know how to continue to eat vegan while traveling? Here are a few tips.
Dine at vegan friendly restaurants: Before your trip, research the vegan restaurants to dine at. Here are some places to assist you with your search:
- VeganTravel.com: Browse vegan restaurants, activities, and accommodations all across the world on Vegan Travel. Check out their travel guides for videos and blogs contributed by the vegan community from specific places around the world.
- Yelp: Type “vegan” in the “find” tab and your location and see what comes up. Read reviews and check stars to see what others are saying about a spot’s vegan options.
- VegGuide.org: Search by continent, by the airport, or type in your destination on VegGuide.org to search veg-friendly spots on this community-maintained guide.
- HappyCow: HappyCow.net locates restaurants and stores near your location that are vegan, vegetarian, and veg-friendly. Click on a restaurant to read reviews and check out photos posted by other users. You can download their app to take with you on the road.
- TripAdvisor: Find vegan options at nearby restaurants on TripAdvisor. After your results appear, you can filter your search by neighborhood, price, cuisine, and meal type.
- Google: You can always Google. Searching on Google for vegan restaurants within your destination will display a variety of guides and articles, round-ups, and of course, a list of restaurants.
Pack your favorite vegan snacks:
Pack some easy-to-go snacks to keep with you while you travel. Pack some dried fruits, chips, dried veggies, nuts, or trail mix. If you are taking a trip that you can pack a small cooler or insulated bag, pack fruit, chopped carrots, cellary, dips, and hummus.
Stay in accommodations with a kitchen:
Consider accommodations where you can cook, for example, a hotel with a kitchen, renting a home or condomenium or camping. Pack some of the foods you would like to cook on the trip or shop for groceries when you arrive.
Visit the nearest grocery store:
Locate the nearest grocery stores and farmer’s markets in the area you are visiting. You may discover new foods.
Ask for vegan options while dining out:
If you are unable to dine at vegan restaurants, order any of the vegan options or any food options that you can make vegan that are on the menu. It can sometimes be hard to find food places with vegan options.
Cook some meals in advance:
If you are taking a road trip, prepare cooked meals, sandwiches, or salads.
These are a few tips for eating vegan while traveling. Eating vegan does not have to be restricting and boring while on vacation.
Check social media: Social media is a good resource for finding almost anything. Instagram is a good place to find vegan restaurants in different cities, states, and countries.
Ask friends and family: Your friends and family may have traveled to where you are going. Ask them even if they are or are not vegan. You will be surprised by the dining suggestions they may give you.
