California’s Best Camping – Sequoia Campground and Lodge
My family has not taken a vacation in over a year. During my son’s Spring break, we decided to visit Sequoia Campgrounds and Lodge.
We have been looking for fun and safe ways to travel. Since we are not comfortable staying in hotels or cabins, we decided tent camping would be a good start. When we told some of our friends we decided to rough it, no one believed us. Little did they know, we were roughing it in style.
Sequoia Campgrounds is nestled in the foothills at the entrance to Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon, along the rambling Kaweah River, Sequoia Campground and Lodge is a camper’s paradise. Their sprawling, 25-acre riverfront property offers abundant camping, fishing, and swimming, set amongst a grove of beautiful Sycamore trees.
Their 51 tent sites offer fire pits, barbeque grills, and picnic tables.

Thanks to Lace and her amazing friendly staff, the campground was very clean. Throughout the day and night, the staff drove around greeting campers, answering questions, delivering supplies on their golf carts all the while picking up any trash as campers checked out, or enjoyed their days and nights at their designated campsites. The bathrooms were cleaned every two hours. On the days the campgrounds seemed to be filled to capacity, the staff managed to keep the grounds looking immaculate and the campers happy. On the days when there were fewer people, the grounds seemed spotless.
Our tent site was beautiful. We pitched our two-room tent steps away from the Kaweah River. Every morning, we woke up to the beautiful sounds of cows lightly mooing from the mountains and the slowly flowing river. Sleeping by the river was a bit cooler. We came well prepared. We had plenty of blankets and a safe portable-propane radiant heater, Mr. Heater.
Every moment spent at Sequoia Campground was fun. We found ourselves gravitating to the river. My son and daughter went tubing down the river. We did not bring tubes but were able to purchase them in the campground store. We were able to purchase almost everything we needed there. We came well prepared with the exception of needing tubes, replenishing ice, and buying fishing equipment.
My son was eager to go fishing. We did not come with fishing equipment but were able to purchase what was needed at the store as well. While we were at the campground, I would look up and find my son either standing on a rock or sitting in his chair hoping to catch a fish. There was one time a fish caught on to his hook. As he struggled to get it out, my daughter tried to help. After some time, they decided to cut the line and release it.
While my son and daughter spent time in the river. I enjoyed sitting on the rocks watching them or just thinking. Sitting by the river seemed to have been everyone’s favorite pass time. On Easter morning, our campsite neighbor played his Christian music on his accordion while sitting on the rocks. Hearing his music on Resserecution Day was what we all needed since we were not attending a church service.
No matter what we did during the day, we ended our day by sitting by a nice fire. Every night after dinner, made smores, popped popcorn, listened to music, and talked.
As avid hikers, we hiked at Sequoia National Park. We were able to experience every season of the year during our 6,000 elevation hike. We passed through large patches of snow and at some moments, felt the warmth of Spring. We were not able to do all of the hiking we would have liked, which gives us a reason to return soon.
Besides hiking, we would drive less than five minutes from the campground to Slick Rock (Kaweah River) every evening, to watch the sunset and enjoy the river. We could not get enough of the river.
There was so much to do at the campground and surrounding areas.
Staying at Sequoia Campground and Lodge was exactly what we needed. We were able to create new memories and feel safe while doing so.
