Rogue One Review: From A New Star Wars Fan
Can you believe seeing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was my first time watching a Star Wars film? At first I was ashamed to admit it, but after seeing Rogue One I am going to watch the previous films.
Rogue One was thrilling, adventurous and funny. Although, I have not seen any of the Star Wars movies I am familiar with many of the past characters and aware that all of the Star Wars movies have the best musical score.
I was prepared to not see many of the past characters if any at all, because I had been hearing that there would not be any of the past characters. I even spoke with a friend who is a huge Star Wars fan and he was trying to school me on the background. All of that went out the window. I began to think if the movie was going to be everything people said it would be, this would be the perfect time for me to become a Star Wars fan.
All that I heard about the movie was mostly correct. In the beginning I did not see any of the familiar faces. I heard some familiar terms like “Death Star” and “”Jhedi” I was able to catch on fairly quickly.
Rogue One has three heroes that come together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star. That was all I needed to know. knew what the Death Star was. I was able to tie in the new characters with what little I knew from the other Star Wars movies. Without spoiling the movie, there were some of the original characters who had cameos in the film. The theater erupted in cheers as they appeared on the big screen. I was not left out because I knew every person! This was going better than I thought.
Not only was the film easy for me to follow and was very enjoyable. There were a few times I was on the edge of my seat, laughing at the a joke or an action they made me laugh.
I even fell in love with two characters. Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen) and K-2SO ( Alan Tudyk) . I loved Chirrut Îmwe strength and determination. He brought the action. He was driven by “the force” and believed in “the force”. K-2SO had a strength and sass that had me the moment I saw him. I loved his relationship with Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). They fought light heck, but deep down I knew they really liked one another. K-2SO understood what it takes to be apart of team, loyalty and sacrifice. My son attending this screening with me and he agreed they were awesome!
Just as I enjoyed the movie, I enjoyed the music. It was amazing! So amazing that when the movie ended we sat to watch the credits roll until the very end.
Thanks to Rogue One I am now a Star Wars fan.
