Things To Do At Legoland – See Legoland Star Wars Miniland Death Star Model Display
Having a 9-year-old son that loves Lego and Star Wars has given me a whole new outlook on the two. I have just discovered I actually like them and have a better understanding of the excitement many people experience and share.
Yesterday, we attended the unveiling of the new Lego Star Wars Miniland Death Star Model Display at Legoland California Resort.
As the General and Darth Vador, along with the Stormtroopers flanked beside them unveiled the Death Star; there were many reactions throughout the crowd as the curtain was released. All I could think was, “This thing is massive!”
The planet shaped LEGO model, made out of more than a half million LEGO bricks, stands 13-feet high, 8-feet wide and weighs more than 1900 pounds. The Lego Death Star is designed from the version featured in Star Wars episode IV: A New Hope. The new model display also features the famous trench run scene where Luke Skywalker maneuvered his X-wing fighter through the combat zone to destroy the Death Star.
My son and I were literally the second guests to have our picture taken in front of the Death Star. This was exciting. After our first set of pictures we returned within minutes to take a group picture with Darth Vador and the Stormtroopers.
As others gathered to take pictures, we tried to sneak a selfie with the Stormtroopers. As we posed, I heard a voice saying, “We like selfies!” Next thing I knew they were in our photo.
Aside from the unveiling of the Death Star I was impressed with the other displays in Miniland. I liked all of the displays but, I was excited when I saw the Darth Vador Lego figure. My son loves Darth Vador. He insisted that we take the picture of the Darth Vador figure alone. We could not be in the picture. After looking at the picture I am happy I listened to him. I absolutely love it!
There were several Star Wars related activities. My son built some sort of starship at the building station. He and the other children were well entertained.
As we exited Legoland, my son thanked me by saying, “Mom, this was awesome!!! and hugged me. He was still excited today. As soon as he woke up this morning he said, “Yesterday, did not feel like a school day. It felt like a holiday. I cannot wait to tell my friends at school about my day.”
He and his friends have been looking forward to seeing the Lego Death Star. They have thumbed through the Lego Jr. Club magazine with hopes of their parents taking them to see it. I am happy we had the opportunity to be some of the first people to participate in the unveiling.
