Walkers Debuts Gluten Free Shortbread Line in the U.S. – Walkers Butter Shortbread Cookies

I recall eating Walkers Shortbread as a child.  I ate these delicious cookies as a child.  Like many people, I am opting to eat some or many gluten-free foods. I have just learned for the first time in 116 years, Walkers Shortbread has adapted its traditional shortbread recipe. Walkers now offer its first-ever Gluten Free Shortbread, providing an authentic shortbread for those who are gluten intolerant or choose a gluten-free diet. The new line debuts with three varieties: Pure Butter Shortbread, Chocolate Chip, and Ginger & Lemon. Walkers promises the pure butter taste and texture you love, just without the gluten.

·         Gluten Free Pure Butter Shortbread: The classic pure butter gluten free shortbread offers a crumbly “melt-in-your-mouth” texture and all butter taste.

·         Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Shortbread: A generous helping of chocolate chips provides a rich and luxurious complement to this classic shortbread.

I sampled the pure butter shortbread.  In my opinion, it did not taste too much different than the traditional shortbread.  They were still very buttery, crispy and went well with my herbal tea.  They reminded me of my childhood when I sat with my great aunt eating shortbread and sipping tea.  I have not had Walkers shortbread in years.  There is not much of a difference in taste when comparing gluten free and traditional shortbread.

My 9-year-old son, who does not eat many sweets did not like the shortbread too well, but he cannot be a food critic on something he will not normally eat.  I would love to have a child that loves cookies to sample them.  Although my daughter is a young adult, when she is looking for something sweet to eat, I will have her try this shortbread.  I think she will like them especially since they are gluten free.
