I have literally just finished watching the pre-screening of King’s Faith.  As mother that is a believer.  I enjoyed this film.

Although, the film is about a teenager in foster care, it touches on subjects that many parents and teens may face or need to discuss.  The topic of drugs, gangs, peer pressure, loss, pregnancy, honesty, love, faith, trust, believe, respect, witnessing, and discernment are revealed in this film.  I may have missed some other topics, but these are the ones that stood out for me.

KING’S FAITH tells the story of Brendan King (Crawford Wilson) who attempts to leave his turbulent gang life behind him, but his past continues to threaten his new-found faith, family, and future. The film prompts audiences to consider questions that many struggle within our world today: “Where is God when it hurts? How am I supposed to move on if my past won’t let me? How can I live out my beliefs in God amidst an unbelieving world? Those are just a few questions that King’s Faith surfaces and bravely answers through a story that doesn’t sugarcoat the trials of faith.” – Jenna Lucado Bishop

KING’S FAITH stars Emmy Award winning actress Lynn Whitfield (Eve’s Bayou, The Women of Brewster Place), Crawford Wilson (Judging Amy, Zoey 101), Kayla Compton (Entourage), and James McDaniel (Malcolm X, NYPD Blue).

King’s Faith has a platform release that begins on April 26, 2013 and continues to other cities the following weeks after. What is unique for audiences (whose market may not be on the initial roll out) is they have the ability to bring the film to their area through a “demand the movie” section on the website at http://www.demandkingsfaith.com/.

The film is about second chances and the potential each of us has to help change a life. Brendan is a teen who is struggling to find out if he is truly worth more than the sum of his biggest failures. A foster family takes him in and, through them; he discovers the courage to face his past.

May is National Foster Care Month and every year 25,000 young Americans “age out” of foster care and are at risk for homelessness, unemployment, incarceration, teen parenting and lives of poverty. (Child Welfare League of America). Themes in the film are about love, perseverance, forgiveness, overcoming your past, importance of accountability and the sanctity of life. The lead character is an older teen who has been through the foster care system and had a difficult time yet a family has taken the time to invest in his life even though he is older and been living with some poor choices. It addresses the theme that many overlook – that even older kids in foster care need love and guidance before they age out of the system….the film is very mainstream.

While watching this film I was able to see the emotions that many people go throw from different walks of life while handling the struggles of day to day life.  The one common ground was the presence of the Lord and how he can move in our lives and how he can speak through us to others if we like it or not.  King’s Faith also revealed how He can come to our aid when we least expect or even when we have tried to turn from Him.

King’s Faith is a film that should be viewed by believers, non believers, foster children, foster parents, families and teens.  I say this because, although, I have and am raising my children, I do not know who I or they may come across and can share a film like King’s Faith.  I can relate to this film having a daughter that participated in her schools christen club and would come home with many stories to tell.  I have always encouraged her to follow the Word.  If she were still in high school this would be a film I know she would share with her club.

All children need guidance.  My heart goes out to children in foster care.  King’s Faith can stand as an eye opener or a reminder, that these children our out there also.
